As I'm sure you are aware, there is a learning curve involved when you start you own home business in online marketing. In fact, most people will spend the first month overwhelmed by new terminology, new routines, and a ton of questions.
The important thing to remember about online marketing is that it is a business, and not unlike any other business that you would start. There is a certain amount of start-up time that needs to be allowed to get the ball rolling.
Like you, I have heard all the hype about online marketers who made 3 sales a day, every day in their first ten weeks. Let me say that these guys are the exception, not the rule. For most of us, it is a process, and the first month is more about you than your product. What I mean is, you'll probably spend your time analyzing yourself, your abilities, your desire, your commitment to making this work, rather than moving product. Don't worry, this is quite natural and if you can see it through for the first couple weeks, you will start to build your confidence.
As well as running a home based business, I also own a home building business. I have found that there are numerous similarities between the two, and in many ways, I treat them the same. By that, I mean there are a few simple questions I ask myself, and do my best to answer honestly, with regards to each business. I call them my ABC's.
A - ASK yourself what you really want from the business. It's not enough just to say, "I want to be a RICH!". You need to be specific. What do you want to get out of your business, and as equally important, what will you do with what you get! What specific financial goals do you have for a 3 month, 6 month, 1 year and 5 year period? How will you spend the money you make. What will go into savings? What charities will you support? Ask yourself the tough questions and demand honest and direct answers from yourself.
B - BELIEVE in yourself, and in your product. You need to tell yourself every day that you sell a great product and actually believe it when you say it! I have been very fortunate in the home building industry because I believe that I build a house that is as good or better that anyone else. Therefore I will not compromise on quality in any area, and this commitment to excellence inevitably wears off on those who work for me. Don't mistake this for arrogance, for it is not. It is self belief, and there's a massive difference! Arrogance dismisses advice and makes no room for learning. Self belief is quite the opposite. There is always room to grow, develop and learn, but it is imperative that you believe in you, and what you're doing.
C - COMMIT yourself on a daily basis to your cause. Keep in mind your goals and be sure to write them down. Studies have shown that a commitment you make actively, that is to write it down, will have more staying power that one which is made passively. Most people will tend not to write down their goals, but to simply commit them to memory believing it will have the same power. However, a written goal, accompanied by a list of steps you will take to reach that goal will most certainly help you to achieve it. Set aside a single hour to think about, and write down on paper your goals. Research shows that if you show your written goals to a spouse, a friend, or a collegue you will solidify your commitment to these goals further still.
It is of no benefit to you or your customers if you simply believe in your product, but do nothing about it. Get into action! Determine which things are necessary to push your business forward and then pursue those things with reckless abandon! Be sure to do at least ONE signifigant thing every day that pushes your home business forward.
These three simple principles , Ask, Believe, and Commit, are there to keep you sharp, especially in the first days, weeks and months of starting an online business. Use them to your benefit, and you will begin to see big results and reap the rewards!
